Children imitate us, even when they don’t know why they are doing it!

So I’ve noticed a few things about my little lady today. She has grown up so much this week, if that’s possible. She is 3 years old now and she loves to “read” and of course she can’t read so I read to her but she loves it.
This morning she jumped into my bed at something past stupid o clock and brought her books with her. There is nothing better than getting smacked in the face with “It wasn’t me said the monkey” first thing in your day and getting ordered to “read mommy”.
Since I was still asleep I told her to read to me and what ensued was one of the cutest things I’ve ever seen.
She sat with the book upside down in her lap, pointed at the pictures babling away making up her own story and then since she saw me do it, she licked her one finger as if to turn the page and then used the opposite hand to turn the page. It was the cutest thing ever. She did as I do when I’m reading a magazine except she had no idea why she was doing it.
I didn’t even realise she had seen me do that and it really made me think. We need to be careful with the words and actions we use around our children. They are watching us and learning how to be humans from us!! They will imitate us. So No pressure parents!
What do your children do that imitates you?

  1. I don’t have any children of my own but I read about this recently how they even pick up our vibes towards money and society- even if they’re not aware of it!
Every time I see my nephew (he’s 9) I ask him what he’s grateful for that day and what’s the best thing that happened to him… I hope he’ll remember this into adulthood, because I hear it’s the best frame of mind to have.
Your little lady sounds like a right cutie! I’m sure she’s grateful every day for her mummy.
    Much love x

    • It’s scary for a young mother. I’m raising 2 little humans and some days I think im getting it totally wrong. And others I think ok, I’m doing ok as a mom. Thank you for reading my post. Have a lovely weekend.

  2. Mine too has adapted the reading mimic. She can not read either, but she will point out things and tell me what they’re doing. Or her favorite, every page is “one time a boy…” (or girl, or momma, or animal). It’s super cute. And I love it.

Now other things she’s likes to mimic us with… sadly she has caught on to my road rage, and often if she sees a car cut in front of us she says “Stupid car.” Which thankfully is no where near as bad as what I say sometimes but uh… still not great ha. She also walks around with the phone, or remote, or even just a small square off of something, and holds in with her shoulder and pretends to carry on a conversation. Recently, I’ve noticed she likes to take pictures of her food when we go out. A trait, she picked up from me also. So far the only thing she has copied from her father, is his video game rage. Let that child get frustrated and I’m pretty sure she cusses everyone out in her own silent way. I can tell by the look on her face and the way she throws her hands up.

    • Oh bless her that is so sweet. Haha yes my little lady also does the phone thing with the remote. It’s cute. She copies her granny, when my mother shouts at her dogs she stamps her foot and points and tells them to go outside. Little lady does that with our cats, except they just look at her like whaaaat? Haha. I take videos all the time of her. They will grow out of this innocence and we will miss it. Have a great day 🙂
