“We believed anything worth doing was worth overdoing.” ~Steven Tyler
Five Motivational Classic Rock Songs That Will Never Die
I have been in the mood for music lately, which is why I am going to share with you five motivational classic rock songs that will never die. At least I am pretty positive they never will because you still hear these songs on the radio to this day. I am a lover of a variety of genres of music, but rock and alternative are my favorites. To me, it feels as if the older rock songs have more feeling to them, so I thought I’d share some greats that most people are still rockin’ out to even to this day. There is no particular order on here. I love them all equally, but I used Aerosmith first because I found an awesome music quote (noted above) to go along with it.
Aerosmith- “Dream On”
“Sing with me. Sing for the years.
Sing for the laughter. Sing for the tears.
Sing with me just for today.
Maybe tomorrow the good lord will take you away…”
Steven Tyler may or may not have one of those voices that people either love or hate. I personally love his voice, especially when he hits the high notes. It sort of makes me slightly jealous that I can’t reach those notes myself lol. However, I grew up on Aerosmith music, and I will never get sick of hearing that band either. This is why I picked “Dream On” as one of the motivational rock songs that I believe will live on forever.
Survivor- “Eye of the Tiger”
“Rising up, back on the street!
Did my time, took my chances!
Went the distance, now I’m back on my feet!
Just a man and his will to survive…”
Everyone knows that Rocky Balboa made this song a legend. It still lives on to this day, and it first made its entrance into the world as a fresh little tiger cub in 1982 (the year I was born). Thirty-five years later, this song still kicks butt! Even the first part of the music before the lyrics gets you pumped up, but the first few lines blow you away and take you to a place that makes you feel as if you are on top of the world. I’m pretty sure the “Eye of the Tiger” will stalk the hearts of others eternally.
Queen- “We Are The Champions”
“We are the champions, my friends,
And we’ll keep on fighting till the end!
We are the champions, we are the champions!
No time for losers ’cause we are the champions!
Of the world…”
In 2003, a Swedish actor and playwright named Erik Wernquist decided to create a computer animated character known as Crazy Frog. My kids loved him! Actually, I won’t lie, I thought he was pretty fun as well. During this era, Wernquist did a remake of “We are the Champions”. The little frog that was so ugly he was cute made the song popular even for my kids’ generation. I even found myself singing along with them when they would watch the Crazy Frog DVD they had with all his songs. However, Queen will still be the champions of this song in most people’s hearts. I believe the song will infinitely live on with the young and the old!
Journey- “Don’t Stop Believin’”
“Workin’ hard to get my fill.
Everybody wants a thrill!
Payin’ anything to roll the dice
Just one more time.
Some will win!
Some will lose…
Don’t stop believin’!
Hold on to that feelin’…’”
Even the song title makes you want to keep going and never give up. Journey’s music is awesome! This is another band that played a lot in my family’s house growing up. I can almost hear the song in my head as I look at the lyrics. Motivational and inspirational, I’m positive Journey will win the hearts of even the next generation if it stays in the homes of those who want to keep a spirit of encouragement. This song will never end; it will go “on and on…”
Tom Petty- “I Won’t Back Down”
“Well, I won’t back down!
No, I won’t back down…
No, I’ll stand my ground!
Won’t be turned around,
And I’ll keep this world from draggin’ me down!
Gonna stand my ground…”
Tom Petty was drafted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002, so it’s no surprise that we still hear his music quite often. In 2017, he and the Heartbreakers are getting ready to go on their 40th Anniversary Tour with their first stop in Oklahoma City April 20th. Even if this song is not on his tour playlist, it has always been one of his more popular songs along with “Free Fallin’”. “I won’t back down” when I say that this song stimulates encouragement. The world won’t ever drag this song down!
“Music is probably the only real magic I have encountered in my life. There’s not some trick involved with it. It’s pure and it’s real. It moves, it heals, it communicates and does all these incredible things.” ~Tom Petty
I hope as you read this amazing list of rock songs it made you want to download at least a few of these songs if they weren’t already on your playlist. Music that inspires and encourages can mean more than the lyrics themselves and can keep a spirit going on the melody alone if it is combined with the right feeling. Have a wonderful day…or night depending on where you are…and keep on rockin’!
