Prayers for the Dying
Offering Hope
”Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade — kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that your faith — of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire — may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls” (1 Peter 1:3-9, ESV)
Romans 8:38-39
God of Love, we find comfort and peace in Your word that tells us that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. I pray that even in death we know that we are not separated from You and Your omniscient power, In Your Name, I ask all these things, Amen.
To Know Jesus Before Dying
Lord Jesus, you know that my life is drawing to its close and I thank You that You have been with me through every stage and scene of my life.
I believe you died and rose from the grave. I believe you live eternally in heaven.
Cleanse me from all unrighteousness. Forgive me of all my sins.
Move into my heart. I make you my Lord and Savior. Thank you for your sacrifice.
I accept your gift of eternal salvation.
Through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.
1 Corinthians 15:51-52
Holy Father, in 1 Corinthians, Your word tells us that we shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed. Heavenly Father,, I pray that please give me peace as I accept on the fact that this transition into death is but a moment in my life, In Your Name, I ask all these things, Amen.
Overcoming the Fear of Dying
Almighty God, our heavenly Father, who, in your perfect wisdom and mercy, I thank You that I am Your child and that You are my Saviour.
You sent Jesus to be my Savior, so I must need to be saved. I ask you to forgive the things I’ve done wrong in life. I ask you to give me the wisdom I need for a fresh start in life. I need you to help me know my purpose. I want to improve a relationship with you. I ask you to come into my life. I want to learn to trust you. I want to learn to love you. I want to learn to love other people the way you want me to. So I ask you today with humility and honesty and sincerity to please save me as I put my trust in you. All these I ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Savior, Amen.

for A Child That Is Dying
Loving Lord Jesus, our most gracious Saviour and friend, our hearts are breaking as we watch this precious little one slipping away from us so quickly. Oh Lord, we commend this little life, which has been such a joy and a blessing to us all, into Your strong and loving hands.
Jesus, You’re with us. Though you are not seen, We know that you stay by our side.
Lord, You love us, and you feel each tear that we cry. We thank God for the great gift of our child. We also know that this precious one, whom we love so dearly is facing the gate of death and should this be the time that you take them home to be with Yourself. Please God grant comfort and strength to us all and especially the parents, who are feeling such deep grief.
Thank You that this little life has come to know the Lord Jesus as their Saviour and I pray that You will stay very, very close as the time approaches for the parting of the way – at least for the time being, until we all meet once again in the heavenly mansions, that You have prepared for us all.
Loving Lord Jesus I commend this little one into Your loving arms – carry Your little lamb home gently, I pray,
I ask for these things in the name of and for the glory of the great Son of God, Jesus Christ, in Whose name I pray, amen.
John 3:16
Awesome God, You loved the world and You gave Your only Son, so that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life! I know that I am promised eternal life in You; even if the doctor proclaims death, You proclaim life! Thank You for Your unwavering love and Your everlasting word, We praise and glorify Your name, Amen.

Revelation 1:17-18
Holy God, in the Scriptures, when Your people saw Your Son resurrected, they fell at His feet as though dead. But He laid His right hand on them, saying, “Fear not, I am the first and the last, and the living one. I died, and behold I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of Death and Hades.” Lord, I rejoice in knowing that even in death, You are in control, You are victorious, and You are the reigning power, We praise and glorify Your name, Amen.
for the Dead
In your hands, O Lord my God,
we humbly entrust our brothers and sisters.
In this life you embraced them with your tender love;
deliver them now from every evil
and bid them eternal rest.
The old order has passed away:
welcome them into paradise,
where there will be no sorrow, no weeping or pain,
but fullness of peace and joy
with your Son and the Holy Spirit
forever and ever.
We praise and glorify Your name, Amen.
at Graveside
Lord Jesus Christ,
by your own three days in the tomb,
you hallowed the graves of all who believe in you
and so made the grave a sign of hope
that promises resurrection
even as it claims our mortal bodies.
Grant that our brother/sister, may sleep here in peace
until you awaken him/her to glory,
for you are the resurrection and the life.
Then he/she will see you face to face
and in your light will see light
and know the splendor of God,
for you live and reign forever and ever.
We praise and glorify Your name, Amen.
Philippians 1:21-23
Creator of the Heavens and the Earth, for us to live in Christ, and to die is gain. If I am to live in the flesh, that means fruitful labor for me. Yet which I shall choose I cannot tell. I am hard-pressed between the two. My desire is to depart and be with Christ, for that is far better. Lord, You are our desire, we yearn to be with You in death, so please keep us until we go to our place with You in heaven, We praise and glorify Your name, Amen.
for a peaceful death
All praise and glory are yours, Lord our God,
for you have called us to serve you in love.
Bless all who have grown old in your service
and give strength and courage
to continue to follow Jesus your Son.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
