Find a  quiet  space. Somewhere you will be undisturbed for a while.  A sacred space where you feel calm and peaceful. It may be a nook you have created at home, in the garden, by the seaside  …

Sit or lie in a comfortable position. Spine straight, arms and legs uncrossed. Take a few deep breaths through your nose, filling your lungs, hold for a few seconds, then slowly exhale  through your mouth. With each successive breath, feel yourself becoming more and more relaxed …. Now, just let your body continue breathing for you.

Close your eyes and ‘look down’ into your heart. From there imagine a golden cord that connects you to the Divine, whatever that is for you. And another, more solid cord, that connects you deep into the core of the Earth. Imagine that you are fully encased in a luminescent bubble, protecting you. Fill this bubble with whatever colour/s feel right for you at this time …..

Imagine you are deep in a forest. The air is crisp and clean. You are surrounded by tall, stately trees, their fingers reaching high up towards the sun. The forest canopy creates a soothing ambience that allows flickers of sunlight to filter through the spaces between the trees and leaves. Beneath your feet is a thick, lush layer of soft moss. Your feet sink deep into the living carpet as you slowly meander along.  Following the narrow path you wind your way through the verdant landscape that surrounds you. You feel totally at peace. Serene. Tranquil. As you glance around at the passing scenery, you notice clusters of wildflowers, throwing resplendent splashes of brilliant colours into secret nooks and crannies. The air is filled with their sweet scent mingling with the damp earthiness of the forest floor…. Take your time soaking in the beauty and tranquility of this place in which you find yourself….

The path you are following leads you to a lake. There, nestled by the side of the lake is a small, rustic log cabin. A ladder lazily leans against its back wall. On the left, by the side of the cabin is a small boat. This inviting scene beckons you closer. Curious, you go and investigate, slowly opening the door to the cabin. Poking your head inside, you see a fire burning in the open fireplace. It’s cheery warmth and glow invites you to step inside.

A simple wooden table and chair are the only furnishings inside the cabin. As you sit down you notice that the table has been set for one. That feels perfectly natural. As if it has been left there just for you. There is a pitcher of cool water next to a small wooden cup. An oval wooden bowl contains some forest fruits, berries and nuts. Suddenly you realise that you are indeed very hungry. You enjoy the repast that has been left or you, slowly savouring every mouthful. The flavours seem more intense, bringing a new depth of nourishing enjoyment. Cool and sweet, the water washes your mouth clean as  you drink deeply. Sated, you sit and watch the fire. It’s crackling plays a soothing background symphony as your eyes follow the play of light and shade cast by the flames. A deep contentment settles into your very soul. Stay and sit for as long as you like….

This is a place you can return to as often as you wish. But for now, it is time to give thanks for the harmony and peace that has filled your mind, body and soul. You stand up, take one last look around the cabin as you open the door and step outside…. returning back to the Present Time.

    Hi Raili. I really wish I had the patience to still my mind like this. It all sounds so wonderful. I have tried to do these kind of relaxation exercises many times but not quite reached the zone yet. Thanks for sharing anyway.
